Hey guys,

I'm just getting started on this thing and I picked a pretty good night to do it! All of Greek Life and Athletics went to a presentation on hazing prevention tonight given by the Dean of Student Development from Cornell, Dr. Tim Marschell. He was a member of Delta Upsilon when he attended Cornell and he told of all of the hazing that he went through, as well as witnessed after he was initiated, and spoke about the effects that it had on his life. It was really intense to hear a first hand account of his situation, but it was even more intense to hear what he did about it.

He obviously stuck with the new member process, but he said that he was constantly told that the worst was over and they were getting in soon...both were lies. As a brother, he stood up for the new members and made attempts to reform their pledging process. It even went to so far as him stopping his brothers in the middle of a line-up and screaming at every one of them. As a result, the process was changed dramatically...which proves that it only takes one person to open the eyes of an entire organization.

Other than that, we've got a couple things going on this week. Every chapter will be setting up tables in the quad to give information about their community service organization on Thursday afternoon, Meet the Greeks on Sunday at 12pm in Hunt Ballroom, and the many events of Hazing Prevention Week.

Bring some friends on Sunday and see what Greek Life is all about!!
